Overview

Worked on designing the Human-Machine Interface (HMI) for the G45 and Minerva 1.2 ovens (Whirlpool W-Collections), focusing on defining user flows, technical requirements, and prototypes for a 3.5” touch display to manage cooking categories and cycles efficiently. I was part of the GCD department of Whirlpool.

My Role

UX & Interaction Designer consultant (via Conflux at Reply)

• Led user flow definition, and prototyping

• Coordinated with software and hardware teams

• Defined the product with project mangers & marketing.

• Managed localization using Lokalise for multilingual support

• Conducted usability testing in lab with real users

Challenge

To design clear, functional navigation flows and specifications on Figma for an embedded system, ensuring alignment with hardware constraints and stakeholder requirements while preparing the product for launch in the global market.

The Process

Knowledge Transfer & Research

• Engaged with the interaction, software, food tech and UX teams to gather technical and functional product knowledge.

• Studied the function list shared by the food tech.

• Analyzed previous product models and the specs to understand user interaction patterns.

• Tested the compatitor products in the lab and defined the reports.

UX Process Setup & Alignment

• Structured Figma documentation and defined the sharing process with development.

• Collected technical requirements and limitations for informed design decisions.

• Mapped out all the features to define the user experience for each one

Flow Definition & Specification

• Outlined user flows and documented specifications on Figma.

• Managed workflows and alignment through daily updates and workshops with development teams.

• Worked and collaborated with the UI team to create a consistent design

Prototyping & Testing

• Built low-fidelity prototypes for early stakeholder feedback.

• Developed high-fidelity prototypes for lab usability testing with physical products, iterating based on user data.

• Collaborated with the Senior UX Oven Category for testing and improvements.

• Handed off to the development team for the implementation

• Integrated strings in Lokalise throught the specific plugin
